So… I’m working on a little research project pulling data from various websites that provide reviews of TV shows or allow their user base to rate TV shows. I plan to compare this data to the Nielsen Ratings from last year to analyze what shows “The Internet” likes and perhaps draw some conclusions. I intend to throw together some interactive plots once all the data is collected, but I thought I’d provide a quick preview with this Microsoft Excel chart comparing the Nielsen Ratings with the number of Facebook “likes” for every scripted network show (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC) from the 2010-2011 TV season. This makes it easy to spot shows that are very popular on the internet, but few people watch them (Gossip Girl), and shows that have a high viewership but a small internet fan base (Blue Bloods). Facebook “like” data was taken from the official network-owned Facebook page for each show between 3:00 and 4:00 PM Mountain Time on February 2, 2012.
